Public Hearings on Rate Change Proposals

The California Public Utilities Commission has required statewide hearings as they consider the rate change proposals. Come tell the CPUC:

This is your chance to stand up to the utilities!

San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and Pacific Gas and Electric have proposed changes to residential rates that would hurt solar. They would add a flat fee for electricity service no matter how much you use and charge more for the electricity that solar customers still get from the utility.

Tell the Public Utilities Commission not to approve anti-solar proposals.

We need solar customers, solar workers, and anyone else who wants to see California continue to be a leader when it comes to promoting clean solar power to attend these hearings! RSVP today!

How do these proposals hurt solar?

Tiered rates have been a cornerstone of California energy policy for years. The way rates are structured encourages people to use less energy and is likely a key determining factor in a customer’s decision to go solar.

The utilities are proposing a fixed charge of $10 per month in addition to charging customers for the electricity they use. This will allow them to collect more money from people who do not consume much electricity from the utility.

While solar customers know that rates are subject to change, opponents of the utilities’ proposals emphasize that any changes to rate design that the Commission makes should be done very gradually so as to not cause a complete market shift overnight. Other speakers at the hearing stated that the proposals also hurt low-income households and energy efficiency efforts.
